Did you know, #ProspectPeople, that in 2018 alone, Indonesia’s waste had the potential to generate around 2,000 MW of energy? By 2019, the country’s population of 260 million had produced 65.8 million tons of waste. Despite this, only 35% of waste was successfully processed, according to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). This falls significantly short of the government’s ambitious target of 100% waste processing capacity by 2025.
So, how can collaborative efforts in waste management help realize the potential for renewable energy?
This critical issue was explored during Prospect Talks #11, a virtual discussion held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 09:00 to 11:30 AM WIB via Zoom. The event featured insights from Nindya Puspaningtyas, Community Development Officer of PT Pertamina MOR VI DPPU Sepinggan, Herry Wijaya, a local hero supported by PT Pertamina MOR VI DPPU Sepinggan, and Dr. Bayu Indrawan, Director of the Center of Waste Management Indonesia.
During the session, the speakers highlighted the importance of collaborative strategies in managing waste efficiently, showcasing initiatives that contribute to the development of renewable energy solutions. From grassroots movements to corporate-driven sustainability projects, the discussion emphasized that waste management is a shared responsibility and a key driver in achieving Indonesia’s energy goals.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the speakers and participants of Prospect Talks #11 for their active engagement and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing you at Prospect Talks #12!
