Dr. Eng. Bayu Prabowo is a leading Waste-to-Energy (WtE) and renewable energy expert with extensive experience in advancing sustainable energy solutions through engineering innovation, research excellence, and strategic project development. His expertise lies in thermal conversion technologies, biomass utilization, waste valorization, and the integration of energy systems to support Indonesia’s transition toward a circular economy and low-carbon future.
With more than a decade of experience in renewable energy and waste management technologies, Dr. Prabowo has contributed to the development of innovative solutions for transforming municipal solid waste and biomass resources into valuable energy. His work bridges the intersection of engineering, environmental sustainability, and policy implementation, supporting the realization of reliable and scalable WtE infrastructure.
Dr. Prabowo earned his Doctor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, specializing in renewable energy, biomass gasification, and Waste-to-Energy systems. His international research experience includes collaborations with Columbia University, USA, and Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, focusing on biomass gasification technologies and advanced thermodynamic simulation of energy conversion systems.
As a Waste-to-Energy Expert at the Center of Waste Management Indonesia (CWMI), Dr. Prabowo has played a key role in advancing national WtE initiatives through feasibility studies, technology assessments, engineering evaluations, and strategic planning for sustainable waste management systems. Since 2013, he has contributed to various national studies related to municipal solid waste treatment, energy recovery potential, techno-economic assessments, and frameworks for urban WtE development.
His professional journey also includes leadership roles in renewable energy development at Pertamina New & Renewable Energy and PT Pertamina (Persero), where Dr. Prabowo has supported the planning and evaluation of renewable energy projects, including waste-to-energy, biomass conversion, and carbon-negative energy pathways. This combination of research expertise and industrial experience enables him to provide comprehensive perspectives across technical, economic, and strategic dimensions of energy infrastructure development.
Dr. Prabowo’s research contributions include advanced biomass gasification, solid waste thermal conversion, Aspen Plus-based energy system modeling, and carbon-efficient energy technologies. He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers in international journals, including research on CO₂–steam gasification, carbon-negative power generation, and waste-to-energy system optimization.
Through his work, Dr. Prabowo continues to promote the transformation of waste from an environmental challenge into a strategic resource for clean energy generation. His vision is to accelerate the adoption of innovative WtE technologies that strengthen Indonesia’s energy resilience, environmental sustainability, and circular economy ecosystem.
